Haryana registers 276 cases registered during the farmers' agitation

Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday stressed the need for better science communication in regional languages to reach out to people in their mother tongue as well as to inculcate a scientific temper among them.Naidu called for increased efforts to popularise science through books, TV shows and radio broadcasts. The Vice President said this while inaugurating a year-long celebration of birth centenaries of Indian scientists, organised by Vigyan Prasar, Department of Science and Technology, on National Mathematics Day. The Day is celebrated each year on December 22, marking the birth anniversary of the legendary Indian mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan. Recalling the contributions of Ramanujan, Naidu emphasised that it is our duty to recognise the contributions of Indian scientists and mathematicians to nation-building. The Vice President said, people should recount their inspirational stories to the youngsters and encourage them to take up careers in science. Naidu also paid tributes to the six scientists whose birth centenary is being celebrated by Vigyan Prasar. They are Har Gobind Khorana, G. N. Ramachandran, Yelavarthy Nayudamma, Balasubramaniam Ramamurthi, G. S. Laddha and Rajeshwari Chatterjee - who were all born in 1922.

-Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) G. Kishan Reddy on Wednesday chaired a meeting of Consultative Committee related to Ministry of Development of North East Region to review and discuss Livelihood schemes. The meeting was held at Parliament House Annexe in New Delhi. During the meeting, Mr. Reddy said that Government of India is fully committed to raise the living standard of the people of North Eastern Region besides strengthening of infrastructure. Chairman and other Members of the Committee desired to take more efforts to contribute in socio-economic development of the region. Mr. Reddy noted the valuable suggestions and feedback given by Members of the Committee for rapid progress and development of the region.

-Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has released the book titled Spices Statistics at a Glance 2021.. The book is a compendium of all the spices statistics like area, production, productivity, export, import, price and value of output of various spices produced in the country. The book has been published by the Directorate of Arecanut and Spices Development, the nodal agency for collection and compilation of area and production estimates of spices at the National level. The book highlights the growth achieved in spices sector during the last seven years. Spices production in the Country has grown from over 67 lakh tonnes in 2014-15 to over 106 lakh tonnes in 2020-21 with an annual growth rate of 7.9 percent. Among the major spices, Cumin, Garlic, Ginger, Fennel, Coriander, fenugreek, Red chilli and Turmeric have shown significant growth rate in production. Spices export has grown from nearly 9 lakh tonnes to 16 lakh tonnes during this period logging an annual growth rate of 9.8 percent in terms of volume. In terms of value, the annual growth rate of spices export has been 10.5 percent during this period.

-In Jammu and Kashmir, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Police and a civilian were shot dead by terrorists on Wednesday evening in Bijbehara area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district and old city area of Srinagar respectively. As per a police spokesman, the ASI was identified as Mohammad Ashraf. He succumbed to his injuries while on way to Srinagar where he was being shifted for specialized treatment. Meanwhile, in Srinagar, a civilian was shot at from a close range outside his residence in Eidgah area of the old city. He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Cases have been registered and search to nab the assailants is on. 

-Haryana Assembly Session adjourned sine die on Wednesday. In the winter session which began on December 17, around 9 bills were passed and the government replied to the questions raised by MLAs during the question hour and Call Attentions accepted by the speaker for discussion on the issues like Covid, Mera Fasal Mera Byora portal etc.  On the last day, the Chief Minister said that a new system is going to be started in the House under which the written answers to the questions raised by the MLAs in the Zero hour will be given by the government to the concerned MLA within a period of one month. The entire house welcomed the Chief Minister's decision.Chief Minister Manohar Lal said that as per the police records, 276 cases have been registered during the farmers' agitation so far. Of these, 4 cases are registered under serious offenses. Out of 272 cases, a charge sheet has been prepared in 178 cases. As many as 158 cases are still untraceable.
