Government has said, it will ensure that there is no shortage of crude oil in the country following the current situation in Ukraine. Replying to a media query in New Delhi on Tuesday, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said, although India meets its energy requirement by importing 85 percent oil and 55 percent gas, the Centre will ensure that there is no shortage of energy in the country. He underlined that the prices are impacted by the international conditions and the oil marketing companies will take a call on the prices of petroleum products. Puri rejected the allegation that the prices of petrol and diesel were not increased in view of assembly elections adding that it is upto the oil marketing companies to take a call in this regard.
On a question related to evacuation of stranded Indians in Ukraine, the Minister informed that 694 Indian students stranded in Sumy, have left for Poltava from where they will be brought back. Puri said these efforts were “fundamentally” different from previous evacuation missions of the government due to the conditions on the ground. He said the Ministry of External Affairs had issued advisories to the students and about 6,000 had left Ukraine before the military action began on February 24.
