Oil marketing companies have increased the prices of commercial LPG cylinders across major cities effective June 1, while keeping domestic cooking gas rates unchanged, according to revised price notifications. The latest revision raises the cost of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders used by hotels, restaurants and other commercial establishments, reflecting changes in international fuel prices and market conditions. In Delhi, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has been increased by Rs 42, taking the retail price to Rs 3,113.50. In Kolkata, the rate has risen by Rs 53.50 to Rs 3,255.50.
Oil marketing companies have also raised the price of 5-kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders by Rs 11. Following the revision, a 5-kg FTL cylinder in Delhi will now cost Rs 821.50.The revised rates came into effect on June 1.However, there has been no change in the prices of domestic LPG cylinders used by households. The retail price of the standard 14.2-kg domestic cooking gas cylinder remains unchanged across cities, providing relief to millions of consumers. The latest price revision comes amid the government's efforts to strengthen India's fuel security and maintain adequate reserves in the face of volatility in global energy markets.
Speaking at an inter-ministerial briefing on Friday, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, said the government has directed oil marketing companies to maintain a minimum 30-day LPG reserve.“Regarding strategic reserves, we are working on the strategic reserves also. And we have asked the oil marketing companies to work out that the LPG reserve that should be minimum 30 days with them and they are working on it. And similarly, for crude also, we are working,” Sharma said. She emphasized that there is currently no shortage of fuel supplies in the country and outlined measures being taken to safeguard against potential supply disruptions.
Reacting to the increase in commercial LPG prices, BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said global geopolitical tensions were exerting pressure on energy markets worldwide."After the Iran–US–Israel conflict and the continued disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, many countries around the world are facing significant challenges. Compared to the rest of the world, the increase in prices in India has been relatively lower. The Government of India is making every effort to ensure that the burden on the public remains minimal, even though prices have nearly doubled in many parts of the world. Despite this, the Congress and other opposition parties continue to politicise the issue. In this time of crisis, everyone should stand united. PM Modi has also conveyed a message to the people, urging them to practice conservation and savings wherever possible."

Commercial LPG cylinder prices are revised every month by state-run oil marketing companies, including Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation. The revisions are based on factors such as international LPG benchmarks, freight rates and foreign exchange fluctuations. The latest increase follows several adjustments in commercial LPG prices over recent months amid swings in global energy markets. In contrast, domestic LPG prices have remained largely stable after multiple revisions over the past two years.Commercial LPG cylinders are primarily used by hotels, restaurants, catering units and other businesses, while Free Trade LPG cylinders cater to segments outside the subsidised domestic LPG category.Industry observers note that the increase in commercial LPG rates could marginally raise operating costs for restaurants and other commercial users, though households remain insulated from the latest revision as domestic cooking gas prices have been left unchanged.
