The world's largest exercise in democracy completed after the final phase of polling on Saturday. The 2024 Lok Sabha Elections were held in seven phases from 19 April to June 1, in which the Indian voters exercised their votes to choose 543 members of parliament for Lok Sabha's 18th five-year tenure. The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), which is helming the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is seeking a third term under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The BJP has given special focus to the southern states where it has not been able to manage many seats, barring Karnataka.

According to Axis My India exit poll, BJP will secure 26 out of 26 seats in Gujarat.VMR in its exit poll also predicted a clean sweep for BJP in Gujarat. Gujarat, historically synonymous with the BJP's dominance, the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah,is gearing up for yet another electoral showdown. With the BJP clinching all Lok Sabha seats in the previous elections (2019), the party's supremacy in the region seems unassailable. However, as the nation approaches the next electoral cycle, the dynamics of power are poised for a rigorous test.Some of other key candidates who are contesting include union ministers Amit Shah, Parshottam Rupala and Mansukh Mandaviya.
Election Date and Seats:
Voting for 25 out of 26 Lok seats (as BJP candidate Mukesh Dalal emerged uncontested winner from the Surat Lok Sabha seat) in Gujarat was held on May 7,in the third and largest phase of the general elections 2024. The state has 26 lok sabha seats, out of which two are reserved for scheduled caste candidates -- Kutch and Ahmedabad West, and four for scheduled tribe candidates -- Dahod, Chhota Udaipur, Bardoli, and Valsad.The other 20 constituencies are: Banaskantha, Patan, Mahesana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar,Ahmedabad East, Surendranagar, Rajkot,Porbandar, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Anand, Kheda, Panchmahal, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Navsari.A total of 266 candidates were in the fray in Gujarat. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, as many as 319 contestants were contesting.
With the literacy rate of 78 per cent, the Gujarat has 4.92 crore voters, including 11.32 lakh first-timers who exercised their franchise on May 7.Of the total registered voters, 2.54 crore are men and 2.39 crore are women.The state has 1,503 transgender voters. A total 4,94,49,469 voters are registered as per the final electoral roll published on January 5, 2024.
The state is considered a staunch bastion for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. But in recent years, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party has made significant inroads.As part of Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), both AAP and the Congress contested polls in Gujarat together.This year's final result will be out on June 4 after the counting will be over.
