Central Armed Policnere Forces (General Administration) Act, 2026 came into force. The Union Home Ministry issued a notification designating 8th October as the commencement date for the legislation’s provisions. President Droupadi Murmu had given her assent to the Act on the 9th of April this year. The Act provides that 50 percent of the total posts in the rank of Inspector General, a minimum of 67 percent of the posts in the rank of Additional Director General, and all posts in the rank of Special Director General and Director General shall be filled by Indian Police Service officers on deputation.
The Act shall be a statutory framework to regulate recruitment and service conditions for Group A General Duty officers and personnel across the CAPFs. Top command postings in Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) will now be governed by explicit statutory law. Retired CAPF officials have opposed the Bill, stating that the government is discriminating against cadre officers who won the case after 10 years of litigation to overcome career stagnation.
