Senior Congress leader and former union minister Shankar Sinh Vaghela has termed Congress party's decision to give Priyanka Gandhi Vadra charge of Uttar Pradesh as a "political misfire". Aggressing a press conference in Gujarat's Gandhinagar on Thursday, Vaghela said that Congress lost power in Punjab because of a lack of maturity and experience. "Congress should have the right advisor. They don't have one. At a time when everyone should work to bring the Congress together, they are working to break the Congress," Vaghela said. He added, "You can understand the generation gap. Whatever issues are present within the organisation, they are the responsibility of Rahul Gandhi, while Sonia ji handles the party.

Admitting to his association with the G-23, Shankersinh Vaghela said members of this faction of Congress are open with each other and talk about how they have been pained by the party leadership. "G-23 is not a revolt against the Congress. They just want to put forth concerns about the functioning of the party. Congress is still the number one anti-BJP party in India and its existence is essential to the country," Shankersinh Vaghela told reporters.
