Somy Ali: My Valentine's Day is always spent with the victims No More Tears has rescued
Seeing that light of hope in a child’s eyes is what is love for actress Somy Ali. Somy, who runs a US-based NGO called No More Tears and tirelessly works for the victims of domestic abuse and rape, especially kids and women, says that when a child thanks her for saving him, that love is unparalleled.
“For me, the idea of love is very different from the stereotypical romantic connotation attached to it. It is the unconditional feeling of deep gratitude and appreciation that I receive from the children that we save, it is their sense of belonginess and security, and the way they thank us, that makes us fall in love with them. I work directly with the victims, when a child or a group of children we have rescued from abuse or are about to be sold into trafficking, hug me and say that they love me, there is no romantic love in the world that can even come close to those words coming from a child’s mouth,” she says.
Talking about Valentine’s Day, she says, “Well, to begin with, I am single without delusions and at peace, but my Valentine's Day is always spent with the victims we have rescued and I can't think of a better place to be than with my children. I intentionally did not have any of my children due to my work and the risks that come with it. The children under the care of my NGO are my Valentines and the day spent with them is incomparable to romantic love as it fills my maternal instincts and has done so for 17 years now. Above all, I know it's loyal and will always be there unconditionally.”
However, when it comes to romantic love, it seems to have lost its relevance for Somy. “At the risk of sounding extremely cynical, which life has made me from personal relationships and through what I have seen via my NGO, for me love is like a scalpel that brings you many cruel cuts without the benefits of anesthesia. Love is beautiful, yet deceitful, love is promising, yet being aware that in love promises are meant to be broken. I have been lied to and deceived too many times, be it my family or intimate love that I have absolutely no illusions or ghosts to chase relevant to love. And I promise you that's a promise I am never afraid I will have to worry about breaking because I made it with myself,” she says. She adds, “Here's the truth: It is hard to be in love with someone who is in love with someone else. I don't know how to turn that into poetry.”
Varun Tej: Ready to soar in "Operation Valentine" with intense training and authenticity
*Varun Tej Takes Flight as he Unveils the Intense Training Behind His Air Force Pilot Role in 'Operation Valentine'. Varun Tej shared insights into his upcoming role as an Air Force fighter pilot in the highly anticipated film, "Operation Valentine," set to hit the screens on 1st March .Reflecting on the challenges of portraying such a unique character, Varun remarked, "Roles like these are not easy, and it's not like you are experienced or you see people from the Air Force in your day-to-day life. There was some homework that we did. We had a person from IAF who was working with us from the time the script was being made because we wanted to make a film that IAF is proud of also."
Speaking about the importance of authenticity in his portrayal, Varun emphasized, "Even after that, we had a couple of IAF people also on the sets, who tried to correct us, our body language, and obviously we met a lot of fighter pilots, engaged in conversation with them, and got to know a lot about their missions, training, and their day-to-day life to understand. It's very important to bring some realism to your character, especially when it's a film like this, but if you’re adorning real heroes of our country you really need to act right."
As anticipation builds for the release of "Operation Valentine," Varun Tej's commitment to authenticity and his dedication to honoring the valiant Air Force pilots shine through. Fans are eagerly awaiting the film, expecting a cinematic experience that not only entertains but also pays tribute to the unsung heroes of our nation.Varun Tej has a lineup of diverse projects in the pipeline, with his upcoming release, 'Matka,' on the horizon. Meanwhile, 'Operation Valentine' is set to hit theaters on March 1st, 2024.

Arun Mandola: These days people confuse romance and sex with love
Who says Valentine’s Day is just for couples? Not actor Arun Mandola who adds that love can be enjoyed in various forms. He adds that love is very different from romance and sex, and must be felt by our inner being.“Love is a feeling that engulfs everything around it. I feel like Valentine's Day can be enjoyed by everyone, whether you are single or are in a relationship. These days people confuse romance and sex with love. I have a different opinion on this. I don’t feel that love is only about physical intimacy, I feel that love is a feeling that is absolutely pure. While sex and romance are part of being in love with someone, I don’t think love is only about physical desires. I have met lots of people who love their partner from their soul. I mean, look at our parents, that is what love is, unconditional and everlasting,” he says.
He adds, “A true lover can spend their whole life with their soulmate without expecting anything in return. I know it might sound impractical, but sex is more for the initial years. Ultimately, you need a good soulmate who understands you, supports you, and can simply be there with you.” However, he adds that, today, the concept of love has become very pragmatic. “With dating apps taking over our love lives, love has become all about that one swipe. I don’t think people even understand what love needs. It needs your commitment, your heart and your soul. But today, love means matching on a dating app and arranging a place to meet. As far as marriages go, for me, both love and arranged marriages hold the same charm,” he says.
Ask him how he celebrates love, and he says, “My idea of love celebrating is to go to a beautiful hill station and spend quality time with your partner in the hills. In the city, a long car ride and a beautiful dinner is all that I need. But for all those looking for a solid relationship, I would say don’t trust anyone blindly. Before going into any relationship, talk and understand your potential partner without any expectations and physical desires. And then take an informed decision.”
