In Tamil Nadu, the DMK has finalised seat-sharing formula with ally Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK). Vaiko led MDMK will contest six seats in Tamil Nadu. The DMK has also signed seat sharing deals withother junior alliance partners such as the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) which will be fielding candidates on six seats. The DMK has also finalised the number of seats with allies Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK). Elections to Tamil Nadu's 234-member Assembly will be held in a single phase on April 6 with the results to be declared on May 2.
Two prominent parties and several smaller independent parties are still in talks with the DMK to stitch an even wider alliance to unseat the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu. These alliance partners of the DMK are likely to get one seat each as part of the seat-sharing formula. However, the aliance with Congress and CPM and DMK yet to finalize, According to sources, both parties are unhappy with the number of seats offered to them as part of the alliance. The DMK had offered the Congress 18 seats against the initial demand of 30 seats. Similarly, the CPM was offered a mere six seats by the MK Stalin-led DMK.
