Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented a Rs1,03,700 crore Budget for 2026–27 on Tuesday, outlining 10 focus areas aimed at strengthening public services, infrastructure and social welfare in New Delhi. The outlay marks an increase from the previous year’s Rs1 lakh crore.While presenting the Budget, Gupta said Delhi’s per capita income remains the third highest in the country and highlighted rapid progress under the “triple-engine government.” She added that this is her government’s second Budget and emphasised a development-led approach.

Health and education emerged as key priorities. The education department received the highest allocation, accounting for 18.6 per cent of the Budget at Rs19,148 crore, while Rs12,645 crore has been earmarked for the health sector.Among other major allocations, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has been granted Rs11,666 crore, the highest so far. The Urban Development Department has been allocated Rs7,887 crore, and the Public Works Department (PWD) Rs5,921 crore, with a focus on improving connectivity and building climate-resilient infrastructure.“Our goal is seamless connectivity, climate-resilient corridors, and technically safe roads,” Gupta said, outlining infrastructure priorities in the Assembly.
The Budget also includes Rs3,942 crore for the power department, with Rs200 crore set aside for undergrounding overhead electricity cables to strengthen power infrastructure across the city.Several new initiatives and schemes were announced. The government will construct an integrated secretariat for its offices along with a residential complex for employees. Under the newly announced Anmol Yojana, Rs25 crore has been allocated to provide free screening of newborns for genetic disorders through 56 types of blood tests.
In the healthcare segment, Rs1,500 crore has been allocated for setting up 750 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, while Rs202 crore will be used to extend benefits to transgender individuals under the Ayushman Bharat. Additionally, Rs150 crore has been earmarked to complete seven ICU hospitals left unfinished earlier.Infrastructure and civic improvements also feature prominently. The Budget allocates Rs1,352 crore for developing dust-free roads and Rs1,000 crore to the Municipal Corporation for road improvements. The Delhi Rural Development Board has been allocated Rs787 crore, while Rs350 crore has been set aside for the MLA Local Area Development Scheme.Targeted regional development has also been prioritised, with Rs300 crore allocated for projects in Yamuna Paar, an area the Chief Minister said had been previously neglected.The Budget underscores a push towards inclusive growth, improved urban services and enhanced quality of life, with a focus on last-mile delivery, healthcare access and sustainable infrastructure.
