Cyclone Jawad weakens into deep depression

In the Kashmir valley, security forces arrested an active terrorist in Budgam and recovered arms & ammunition from his possession. On a specific input regarding the movement of terrorists in Poshkar area of Budgam, Police along with 62 Rashtriya Rifles & 79 Bn CRPF launched a joint cordon and search operation in the area. During the search operation, the joint team arrested an active terrorist linked with proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT). He has been identified as Abdul Hameed Nath resident of Pethzanigam Beerwah in Budgam district. Incriminating materials including a pistol and 01 magazines, 05 pistol rounds, and 01 Chinese grenades were recovered from his possession. As per police records, he was active since February 2021.

-Several parts of Odisha have experienced rainfall of varying degrees since Saturday due to the impact of the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal. India meteorological department has said that the cyclone Jawad has weakened into a deep depression and further into a depression by last evening. The forecast says that it will reach near the Puri coast in Odisha as a depression around noonon Sunday. Due to its impact, the entire stretch of sky over the coastal belt of the state is laden with dense clouds that are pouring down at a few places as in capital Bhubaneswar now. Even as the depression advances towards Odisha coast, it may cause widespread rainfall along with intense rainfall at a couple of places over the coastal districts.Accordingly, the local administration of all coastal districts are fully geared up to face any challenge thrown up by the oceanic vagary. The administration of districts like Puri have already evacuated people from low-lying and vulnerable areas to safer places, apprehending local inundation. Fishermen have been advised against any venture into the rough sea.

-Labour and Employment Minister Bhupender Yadav launched a dedicated pilot programme for a preventive annual health check-up for Insured Persons aged 40 years and above at four ESIC Medical Hospitals at Ahmedabad, Faridabad, Hyderabad and Kolkata today. This will benefit Insured Persons in early detection of diseases. The Minister informed at the meeting that he will himself monitor the progress of Pilot Annual Preventive Health Check-up Programme launched on Saturday. Speaking at the 186th Meeting of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation, ESIC held in New Delhi, Yadav exhorted all to work with speed and even more diligence to ensure better social security for the workers of the country and their dependent families. The ESIC meet also approved acquisition of a plot measuring 8.7 acres for setting up of 500-bed ESIC Hospital at Manesar. Approval was also accorded for acquisition of land for construction of 100 bed ESIC Hospital at Meerut.

-Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievance and Pension Dr. Jitendra Singh has said that the grievance disposal rate in the departments under the union government has gone up to about 95 to 100 percent.  Addressing the valedictory session of the "Regional Conference on Replication of Good Governance Practices"  in Bhubaneswar in Odisha Saturday, the Minister said that this has been made possible by the Prime Minister's thrust on 'Minimum Government- Maximum Governance'.  He said, the Government of India has taken many initiatives on good governance like CPGRAMS for redressal of public grievances. The Minister said replicating good governance practices will go a long way in making the administration more responsive towards the people in need. He said, as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, good governance week is being observed by the department of administrative reforms and public grievances from December 20 to 26 this year. In his valedictory address, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said, good governance is the greatest tool for transformative changes in society. Delegates from across 15 eastern and northeastern states took part in the two days' deliberations.
