Currently, there are 12 states with over 1 lakh active Covid-19 cases. Of them, only three - Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh - have shown a strong decline in the number of active Covid-19 cases. Some others such as Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and West Bengal have shown signs of slower growth of active Covid-19 cases compared to before. Delhi too has registered a reduction in active cases of Covid-19 in the past one week. Though, India's active Covid-19 caseload increased from 7.37 lakh (April 4) to 34.85 lakh in the past one month, registering a growth of 472 per cent. Active Covid-19 cases are the actual burden on the healthcare infrastructure.
In Maharashtra, a decline of about 60,000 over the past two weeks. Many hotspot districts are are now reporting more recoveries than fresh cases. These districts include Mumbai, Thane, Nagpur, Nashik and Ahmednagar. However, districts such as Latur, Beed and Sangli could emerge as the new hotpots in Maharashtra. Uttar Pradesh showed some signs of respite in the past week.Active Covid-19 cases have declined on all days in May after rising almost continuously through April. Currently, Uttar Pradesh has 2.72 lakh active Covid-19 cases - a reduction of about 38,000 in four days. Rajasthan has shown a trend of declining growth in active Covid-19 cases in the past one week. While the active cases of Covid-19 rose by almost 10,000 a day during April 19-26, the rate of increase slowed down after that. Chhattisgarh has remained a Covid-19 trouble spot for over a month in the second wave of the pandemic. But it is now showing signs of plateauing with nine of the past 18 days registering a decline in daily active cases of Covid-19.After reaching a peak of over 1.30 lakh on April 17, Chhattisgarh has seen a decline of over 6,000 in active Covid-19 cases. On May 4, Chhattisgarh had 1.24 lakh active cases.
