The prices of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders have been reduced by Rs 135 per cylinder across cities from June 1. Commercial cooking gas will now cost Rs 2,219 in Delhi, Rs 2,322 in Kolkata, Rs 2,171.50 in Mumbai, and in Chennai, it will cost Rs 2,373. Meanwhile, the price of the 14.2-kg LPG cylinder has cut down to Rs 1,003 in the national capital. Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries will get Rs 200 subsidy directly in their bank account and the effective price for them would be Rs 803 per 14.2-kg cylinder. All users including Ujjwala beneficiaries bought cylinders at market rate as was no subsidy paid on cooking gas since June 2020. The price of the cylinders is currently at Rs 1,003 in Delhi.
India relies on overseas purchases to meet about 85 percent of its oil requirement, making it one of the most vulnerable in Asia to higher oil prices. Though India has surplus oil refining capacity, but it does not manufacture enough LPG to meet domestic demand and imports significant quantities from nations such as Saudi Arabia. Earlier on April 1, the price of the 19 kg commercial LPG was raised by Rs 250 per cylinder to Rs 2,253. While on March 1, the commercial LPG price was increased by Rs 105
