India Meteorological Department has predicted more rainfall in coastal Tamil Nadu and continuation of cold waves in northwest India during the next 4 days. IMD said Bay of Bengal coast, spanning Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, is expected to receive a fresh bout of heavy rainfall. It said, a fresh active Western Disturbance and cyclonic circulation is likely to affect northwest India from Tuesday. Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are likely to experience widespread rainfall and snowfall under its influence during the next 4 days. Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, north Rajasthan, west Uttar Pradesh, and West Madhya Pradesh are also likely to experience rainfall.
Meanwhile, a severe cold wave condition continued to prevail in several parts of the country on Sunday with temperatures dropping to freezing levels in the past few hours. In Delhi, the cold weather was accompanied by very poor air quality levels, making it worse for peoples. Besides, most other north Indian states reported bone-chilling temperatures. Sub-Himalayan Bengal also saw freezing temperatures even as capital Kolkata remained temperate at 20 degrees Celsius. The Himalayan state reported below normal temperature at many places with the mercury dropping to -1.6 to -3.1 degrees Celsius.
