Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh reiterated that abrogation of article 370 has benefitted Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking in the Lok Sabha on the budgetary grants to the Union Territory, Dr Singh stressed that abrogation of 370 has opened doors for the implementation of Prevention of Corruption Act, reservation for Scheduled Castes and Tribes, Child marriage act and anti dowry act among others. He informed that 50,000 crore investment has come into the Union Territory and 10,000 crore rupees is directly deposited into the bank accounts of the Panchayats to take up local development. Dr Jitendra Singh highlighted that infiltration has come down from 4089 in 2010 to 77 in last year. Congress member Manish Tewari questioned why Jammu and Kashmir’s budget is discussed in the House where as other UTs budget is not discussed. Tewari pointed out that after abrogation of Article 370 terrorist activities has not come down.
-Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who is also the in-charge Minister for finance, on Monday presented state budget 2022-23 with a fiscal deficit of Rs.644.81 Crore. While presenting the budget in the state Assembly the Finance Minister said that the budget is built on the six building blocks of learning from the COVID19 pandemic and they are:- 1. Governance Reform and Prudence financial management, 2. Sustained investment in the Health Sector, 3. Continued investment in Human Capital, 4. Emphasis on Atma Nirbhar Arunachal, 5. Synergy and Convergence and 6. Environment protection and Climate resilience. He said that these building blocks are very carefully crafted to make Arunachal Future ready. Mr. Mein also said that beside these six blocks, the state government will be emphasizing on preservation of Culture and indigenous faith and many projects have been taken up in this regard in this budget. He said that the basic philosophy of this year’s budget is ‘no citizen left behind’. He said that the government is sensitive to the needs and aspirations of the people and remain inclusive for all-round development of the state to reach the last citizen. -In Manipur, the newly elected members of the 12th Legislative Assembly have taken oath as members on Monday. Protem Speaker S. Rajen administered oath to sixty members at the Assembly Hall. Meanwhile, the BJP which got the absolute majority in the recently concluded General Election is expected to form a BJP led Government. The leaders of the party have begun discussions for formation of the government and selection of a Chief Minister Candidate. The elected members who have taken oath as MLA consist of 32 of BJP, seven of National People's Party, six of Janata Dal (United), five each of Indian National Congress and Naga People's Front, two of Kuki People's Alliance and three Independent candidates. Historically, five elected women candidates also gave their oath as members of Manipur Legislative Assembly. With the conclusion of the oath-taking ceremony, the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly has come into force from Monday. Meanwhile, Janata Dal (United) has decided to support the BJP State government. The party has issued a statement wherein Kh. Joykishan has been appointed as chief of the legislature and given unconditional support to the BJP government. The BJP has not announced any coalition with the party so far. However, it is expected that they are likely to meet the Governor for the formulation of government.
-Government on Monday said the total profit of Central Public Sector Enterprises, CPSEs has increased by 37.53 per cent in fiscal year 2020-21 in comparison to corresponding year. However, the losses incurred by the CPSEs, has decreased by 29.86 per cent during the same period. The information was given in a written reply by the Minister of State for Finance Dr. Bhagwat Krishanrao Karad in the Lok Sabha. He said, there are 255 operational CPSEs as on 31st March 2021 with a total turnover of 24 lakh 26 thousand 45 crore rupees in 2020-21. Out of these 177 CPSEs are profit-making with total profit of one lakh 89 thousand 320 crore rupees.
-There will be no sitting of both the Houses on March 17th and 18th. Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday announced that the regular sitting of the Rajya Sabha will be cancelled on March 17 due to Chhoti Holi or Holika Dahan. With this announcement made during its proceedings, the Upper House will observe two official holidays on March 17 and March 18 on the occasion of Holi. Besides, the functioning of the House will not take place on March 19 and March 20 due to weekends.
There will be no sitting of Lok Sabha also on Thursday and Friday.
