In Andhar Pradesh, at least 9 people, including 5 women, were killed after a State Road Transport Corporation bus veered off the road and plunged into a canal in the West Godavari district on Wednesday. The accident reportedly happed as the bus driver in order to avoid a collision with the truck that came in opposite direction on a narrow bridge tried to swerve but lost control and plunged into the water body. The bus was heading towards Jangareddygudem in West Godavari district from Aswaraopet in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, in which at least 47 passengers were there at the time of the accident. Eluru RDO Prasanna Lakshmi said that the rescue operations are underway and 13 injured passengers were sent to Eluru government hospital.
Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan expressed anguish and grief over the accident near Jalleru in Jangareddigudem Mandal in West Godavari district. The Governor has instructed district officials to provide immediate aid to the injured and offered his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed anguish over the incident and has announced Rs 5 lakh compensation to the family of the bereaved.
