Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu has said that Amaravati would be the capital of Andhra Pradesh, a day before taking oath as the state chief minister. Naidu vowed that Amaravati would be the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh and also promised to complete the Polavaram Project.This declaration came during a joint meeting that included legislators from the TDP, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Janasena Party. During this meeting, Naidu was also unanimously elected as the leader of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. “In our government, there will be no games under the guise of three capitals. Our capital is Amaravati. Amaravati is the capital,” said Naidu.Jana Sena Party chief K Pawan Kalyan proposed his name, and this was supported by BJP state president and newly elected MP D Purandeswari.
Chandrababu Naidu is set to take oath as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday,June 12, marking his fourth term in that role. He added that Visakhapatnam will be developed as the economic capital and an advanced special city.Amaravati is back in the limelight yet again after the TDP's landslide victory in Andhra Pradesh with a majority of 164 assembly and 21 Lok Sabha seats, catapulting Naidu to a kingmaker's role in national politics.
In 2019, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy led the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) to a sweeping victory, floating the idea of decentralised development in the state. Reddy had said he would develop Visakhapatnam as the administrative capital and take oath there.The YSRCP government introduced a proposal for three capitals in December 2019, designating Visakhapatnam as the executive capital, Amaravati as the legislative capital, and Kurnool as the judicial capital.In March 2022, the Andhra Pradesh high court directed the YSRCP government to develop Amaravati as the state capital, a decision the government challenged in the Supreme Court, where it remains pending.
