The government has approved 31 more applications under Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) with projected investment of nearly Rs 7,900 crore. These approvals will result in a total production of electronics components worth Rs82.000 crore and are expected to generate over 9,500 employment opportunities. These applications have come from ten States including seven from Tamil Nadu and six each from Maharashtra and Haryana. Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw handed over the approvals to the applicants at a function in New Delhi on Monday. The applications are related to the manufacturing of products including Acetylene Black, Speakers and microphones, Optical Transceivers, capacitors and coils. Speaking on the occasion, Ashwini Vaishnaw said that with this 31 approvals, a total 106 Applications of companies have got approvals under the scheme. He informed that the government had set a target of attracting investment of 59 thousand crore rupees but now the target has crossed and achieved 69 thousand crore rupees.
ECMS is proving to be a catalyst for job creation and economic growth. So far, 106 projects have been approved, which will generate 74,628 direct jobs. 38 plants have already commenced manufacturing, while another 16 projects are at advanced stages of construction or machinery installation. The approved projects are spread across 10 States viz. Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, further expanding the geographical footprint of electronics component manufacturing in the country. Some applicants have proposed investments across multiple locations/States.
