NDA MPs slam Rahul Gandhi over police action on J'khand protesters

NDA on Tuesday held a march inside the Parliament premises over alleged police action against students in Jharkhand. The MPs were carrying placards alleging that the Opposition is avoiding discussion, despite the government’s assurance that Home Minister Amit Shah is ready to respond to the student protests. Union Minister Anupriya Patel accused the Opposition of deliberately disrupting the functioning of Parliament.

Talking to the media, Ms Patel said the Opposition had initially raised the issue of the paper leak and demanded the resignation of the Education Minister, which was accepted by the government. She said that despite the acceptance of their demands, opposition parties are not ready for discussion. Union Minister and BJP MP from Ranchi Sanjay Seth said that the entire Jharkhand is closed on Tuesday. Seth accused the Hemant Soren-led Jharkhand government of using force to suppress the voices of protesting students. He also criticised Chief Minister Hemant Soren for his insensitivity regarding the matter.BJP MP Nishikant Dubey accused Gandhi of adopting a “double character” over the Jharkhand student protests and demanded that the Congress withdraw support from the Jharkhand government if it was genuinely concerned about the students.

NDA and Opposition MPs faced off outside the Parliament premises, with both parties holding placards and playing blame games regarding the Jharkhand student protests. Several NDA MPs participated in the stir, including Kangana Ranaut, Anil Govil, Aparajita Sarangi and Anurag Thakur, among others. Meanwhile, INDIA MPs included Priyanka Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav and Jaya Bachchan, among others.

Several agitators and four policemen were injured during a clash near the Jharkhand Assembly on Monday, as police used water cannons, tear gas and lathi-charged job aspirants protesting against alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations, officials said.
