Rekha Gupta named Delhi's new Chief Minister

Rekha Gupta, a first-time MLA, will be the next CHief Minister of Delhi.Gupta, 41, won the Shalimar Bagh seat in the recent Delhi Assembly election with a margin of close to 30,000 votes. The newly elected Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs decided in a meeting held  to choose the legislative party leader on Wednesday. She will be sworn in as CM on Thursday.

The decision comes as the party returns to power in the national capital after 27 years, securing 48 seats in the 70-member House. Gupta’s name was announced at the BJP’s legislature party meeting, attended by observers Ravi Shankar Prasad and Om Prakash Dhankhar.She served as the mayor of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC)
