The Madhya Pradesh government has constituted a new delimitation commission to re-examine the boundaries and number of districts and divisions in the state, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said in Bhopal. Madhya Pradesh is the second largest state in the country in terms of area and people also have to face various problems. Therefore, the boundaries are re-drawing he noted.
The state government constituted a three-member delimitation commission. Retired Additional Chief Secretary Manoj Shrivastava has been made the chairman of the commission. There are several difficulties in big districts like Sagar, Ujjain, Indore and Dhar. “Rationalisation of such districts will take place through the delimitation process,” he said. The state government has redefined the limits of police stations and this decision will be beneficial from the administrative point of view, Yadav said.He urged the people to submit their suggestions to the commission.A move was initiated for delimitation of districts in Madhya Pradesh during the second term of former chief minister Sunder Lal Patwa in March 1990- December 1992.But, the plan could not be executed. Madhya Pradesh, which is the second largest state in area after Rajasthan, has 55 districts and ten administrative divisions. This will be the maiden exercise by the state government to redraw boundaries of districts after formation of Madhya Pradesh on November one, 1956.
