Sensex fall 71 pts, Nifty below 24,370 amid geopolitical tensions

The domestic share market ended an extended losing streak for the fourt straight session on Friday, amid selling in metal, auto and IT stocks.Meanwhile, elevated crude oil prices and ongoing geopolitical concerns weighed on investor sentiment.At close, the Sensex was down 70.71 points or 0.09 percent at 78,009.25, and the Nifty was down 29.85 points or 0.12 percent at 24,366.

For the week, BSE Sensex shed 0.6% and Nifty lost 0.8%, according to agency reports. Apollo Hospitals, Bharti Airtel, Adani Enterprises, Adani Ports and Wipro were the top gainers on the Nifty, while losers included Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle, Jio Financial, ONGC, Hindalco and SBI.On the sectoral front,auto, energy, FMCG, metal, pharma, realty down 0.3-1%, while consumer durables, media gained nearly 1% each.The broader market underperformed, with Nifty midcap index falling 0.5 percent and smallcap index declining 0.7 percent.
Rupee Close:
On 14 Aug'26,the Indian rupee appreciated 3 paise to close at 95.42 (provisional) against the U.S. dollar on Friday, due to weakness in the greenback against major rivals overseas.According to forex traders, the rupee stayed under pressure due to foreign fund outflows and rising crude oil prices amid geopolitical uncertainties.
