Sensex fall 500 pts from day's high, Nifty below 23,700

The domestic share market pared early gains on Friday amid profit booking at higher levels and surging crude oil prices.The Sensex had jumped 471.64 points or 0.62 percent to hit an intraday high of 75,870.36 in early trade.The broader Nifty climbed 149.70 points or 0.63 percent to touch 23,839.30.However,at close, the Sensex fell 160.73 points or 0.21 percent to 75,237.99, while the Nifty declined 46.10 points or 0.19 percent to 23,643.50. Market breadth remained weak, with 2,381 declines against 1,631 advances.


Tech Mahindra, Infosys,Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd, Kotak Mahindra Bank were the top gainers on the Nifty, while losers included Reliance Industries, Mahindra & Mahindra,Tata Steel, Trent Ltd.On the sectoral front,Nifty metal, realty, PSU banks and Oil & Gas declined up to 1.5 percent. The broader market also traded lower, with the Nifty Smallcap100 and Nifty Midcap100 indices declining 0.23 percent and 0.25 percent, respectively.
Rupee Close:
On 15 May'26,the Indian rupee hit a fresh record low of 96.07 ,(down 0.3% from its previous close)against the US dollar on Friday, extending its losing streak over three straight sessions amid soaring crude oil prices and escalating tensions in West Asia.
