The Indian share market traded lower on Friday amid broad-based selling pressure across sectors, barring IT.At close, the Sensex was down 1,092.06 points or 1.44 percent at 74,775.74, and the Nifty was down 359.40 points or 1.50 percent at 23,547.75.
Tech Mahindra, HCL Technologies, Infosys, Wipro, and Larsen & Toubro were the top gainers on the Nifty, while losers included Eicher Motors, InterGlobe Aviation, Power Grid Corporation of India, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, and Bajaj Auto.On the sectoral front,Among sectoral indices, all sectors except IT (up 0.6%) ended in the red. Auto, metal, energy, and oil & gas indices were the top laggards, each falling around 2 percent.Broader markets also remained under pressure, as the Nifty Midcap index declined 1.3 percent, while the smallcap index fell 0.85 percent.

For the week, BSE Sensex and Nifty shed 0.8% each, while for the month of May 2026 both the indices fell 2.7 percent and 1.8 percent, respectively, according to information.
Rupee Close:
On 29 May'26, the Indian rupee appreciated 53 paise to close at 95.05 against the U.S. dollar in early trade on Friday , as renewed optimism over the peace deal between the U.S. and Iran boosted market sentiments.Forex traders said the USD/INR pair appreciated on an overnight decline crude oil prices and a fall in the U.S. dollar, after the U.S. and Iran reached an understanding to extend the ceasefire for another 60 days.
