Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday evening received a warm and enthusiastic welcome upon his arrival in Auckland, marking the start of his historic two-day visit to New Zealand. This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in nearly four decades. PM Modi received a traditional Māori welcome at Government House in Auckland.

After arriving in Auckland, Prime Minister Modi was received at the airport the Indian community gathered in large numbers to greet him. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as people waved the Indian tricolour and chanted “Kia Ora Modi” to welcome him. Later, Prime Minister witnessed a vibrant celebration of India’s rich cultural heritage during the community welcome in Auckland. In a series of social media posts, the Prime Minister said that the performances showcased the cultures of Punjab and Tamil Nadu, a fusion of Carnatic and Hindustani classical music, and a stirring rendition of Vande Mataram.
Modi complimented the diaspora for keeping India’s cultural heritage vibrant across generations and continents and for strengthening the enduring people-to-people bonds between India and New Zealand. The Prime Minister also expressed delight to witness the performance by the Naad Vocal Ensemble. He said music has a unique ability to bring people together, and today’s performance beautifully reflected the warmth and depth of India-New Zealand friendship.

Sharing a photograph of the illuminated landmark on X, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “A special welcome in Auckland!
