Woman tried to attack Mamata Banerjee near her house, TMC claims

A woman who claimed to be a niece of former chief minister Mamata Banerjee allegedly tried to enter her security cordon with a knife in an intoxicated state on Tuesday evening, the Mamata All India Trinamool Congress claimed.Party MP Dola Sen sent a written complaint to the Kalighat police station in Kolkata stating that the incident took place around 6 pm near Banerjee’s residence in Kalighat. Dola Sen said the woman, whom she identified as Tannishtha Saha, is a civic volunteer and claimed to be Banerjee's niece. When the Mamata All India Trinamool Congress chief left her house in Kalighat at 6 pm, Saha let loose a volley of obscenities and tried to attack her.
Civic volunteers are contractual personnel engaged by the West Bengal Police and Kolkata Police to assist with traffic management, crowd control, and public safety duties. The Mamata Banerjee faction of the Trinamool Congress claimed Saha was a drug addict. It questioned how someone could approach the residence of a Z-plus protectee and hinted at a conspiracy.
Banerjee had come out of her house to inaugurate a Durga Puja pandal near her residence when the woman tried to enter the security cordon from behind. “When I asked her identity, she said that Banerjee was her paternal aunt. I refused to let her in. She then tried to sneak into the security cordon from the front. When she failed, she lay down on the road and started hurling abuses. It was then that we saw that she had a knife,” Sen said. A TMC leader said that the woman was overpowered by TMC workers around Banerjee and later handed over to the police.
The police, however, made no mention of an attack or a sharp object and said the woman has been detained. The police identified the woman as 38-year-old Anusua Saha, termed the incident an "altercation", and said she has been detained.
