Uttarakhand avalanche: 4 labourer dies, rescued, 5 still trapped

 labourer died and 50 were pulled out alive from the snow that engulfed a BRO camp in the high-altitude Mana village in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district as rescuers raced against time to find survivors on Saturday. Five workers remain trapped. Thirty-three labourers were rescued by Friday night. The avalanche hit the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) camp between Mana and Badrinath between 5:30 am and 6 am on Friday, burying 55 workers inside eight containers and a shed, according to the Army.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday conducted an aerial survey and took stock of rescue operations in the Chamoli avalanche at the disaster control room set up in Delharadun. Dhami said that over 23 workers have been rescued from the avalanche site and some of them who sustained serious injuries, were airlifted to Joshimath for medical treatment."More than 200 personnel are deployed for rescue operations. Prime Minister took stock of the rescue operations on Saturday morning. He has assured of all the necessary help." the Uttrakhand chief minister said.
Workers of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) had got trapped under snow when the avalanche struck on Friday and teams from the NDRF, Indian Army and the IndoTibetan Border Police working on a war footing in a joint operation have managed to pull out 47 workers out of the 55 people trapped so far and the search for eight remaining have intensified.The Uttarakhand government has issued the following helpline numbers: Mobile No: 8218867005, 9058441404; Telephone No: 0135 2664315; Toll-Free No: 1070. The Indian Air Force's (IAF) Mi-17 choppers left for Mana on Saturday morning to join the search-and-rescue operations. The Mana helipad was opened, where 14 civilians were rescued, one of them in critical condition.

According to a list released by the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority, the trapped labourers are from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir, among other states. The list has 10 labourers' names, without mentioning the states they belong to.
