Alaska Aircraft crash kills all 8 on board, no survivors

A charter plane crashed near a remote radar site in western Alaska on Thursday, killing all eight people on board, according to federal aviation and military officials,according to media reports,the Cessna 441, operated by Security Aviation, departed Anchorage and was headed to Cape Newenham, around 450 miles southwest. It crashed near its destination at about 12:15 p.m., the Federal Aviation Administration said.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) stated that the aircraft was carrying two pilots and six passengers. Search-and-rescue crews later confirmed there were no survivors.The aircraft went down at Cape Newenham Airport, an Air Force airstrip that provides access to a Long Range Radar Site. Only military and approved charter flights are permitted to land at the facility.The cause of the crash remains unknown. The NTSB will lead the investigation, with the FAA assisting.
The aircraft’s passengers and crew have not yet been identified, with officials saying their names will be released after their families are notified.
US Air Force Lt. Gen. Robert Davis described the crash as a “devastating loss” and said the victims were professionals carrying out a vital mission in a demanding environment.The crash site is near a gravel runway nearly 4,000 feet long and situated on the slope of a mountain more than 2,300 feet high. FAA maps indicate high terrain on both sides and at the southern end of the runway.The incident prompted a response from multiple search-and-rescue agencies, including the US Coast Guard, Alaska State Troopers and the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center.
