K'taka MLA resigns after his constituency not included in drought-hit list

Karnataka Congress MLA Yashwanthrayagouda Patil tendered his resignation in protest against his Indi constituency not being declared drought-hit, causing embarrassment to the DK Shivakumar administration. He has sent his resignation to Karnataka Assembly Speaker GS Patil. In his letter dated September 22, Patil said he was unable to meet the hopes and aspirations of the people of his constituency. He also alleged that in the current political environment, importance was being given to influential people and those who use pressure tactics.
Patil stated that he submitted petitions on August 28 to Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and his deputy G Parameshwara, the revenue minister, seeking declaration of the Indi taluk as drought-hit. “However, of the 13 taluks in the Vijayapura districts, two have been excluded -- Indi and Chadchan,” Patil stated.The Speaker, however, told the Assembly that he rejected the resignation as it was not as per rules.

He had earlier resigned from his legislative post on August 3 after being left out of the D K Shivakumar-led Cabinet expansion, but later withdrew it after the party leadership persuaded him. His latest resignation follows his allegation that Indi has still not been declared drought-hit despite repeated appeals.
Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara said on Tuesday that the number of drought-hit taluks would touch 177 and might reach 200 in the coming days. He said 101 taluks were declared drought-hit in the first phase, 23 were added after continued assessment, and 53 more were recently included in the list.
