The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has once again demonstrated its unassailable dominance in Gujarat by winning 25 out of 26 Lok Sabha seats in the 2024 general elections. Gujarat,a key battle ground in Indian politics,often hailed as a bastion of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP),has sustained the winning streak for the third consecutive term in the state ,reinforcing its stronghold and solidifying its influence.
Till the time report was filed,the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Gujarat has taken a commanding lead in 24 of the 26 Lok Sabha constituencies.The Congress is leading in one seat, Banaskantha. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is leading in Gandhinagar with over 6.37 lakh votes, agianst Congress candidate Sonal Patel.In Porbandar, Union Minister and BJP candidate Mansukh Mandaviya has garnered 375,638 votes, leading by 2,30,085 votes.In the tightly contested Rajkot seat, Union Minister Parshottam Rupala has secured 3,76,560 votes, leading Congress' Paresh Dhanani by 2,44,232 votes.In Gujarat's tribal belt, including Dahod, Chhota Udepur, and Panchmahal, the BJP is leading in all constituencies.
The BJP's resounding victory in 2019, where it clinched all 26 seats for the second consecutive term, underscored its unwavering support base and solidified its political stature in Gujarat. Moreover, the issues like Pulwama strike and National spirit rein high together with Modi wave in the mind of people in 2019 Lok Sabha election.
This election cycle, however, has introduced a strategic shift within the BJP's ranks, marked notably by the decision to drop five sitting MPs in its second list of candidates. This calculated move highlights the party's dynamic approach towards representation and its commitment to adaptability in the ever-evolving political landscape. The BJP's initial list of 195 candidates, covering 15 Lok Sabha constituencies, set the stage for a diverse and inclusive representation, reflecting meticulous planning and foresight in navigating electoral dynamics.
For the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, voting in Gujarat was held in a single phase on May 7. One seat, Surat, the BJP candidate, Mukesh Dalal has already been declared the winner after the withdrawal of Congress candidate nomination Nilesh Kumbhani for Surat seat.
The Gujarat has 26 lok sabha seats, out of which two are reserved for scheduled caste candidates -Kutch and Ahmedabad West, and four for scheduled tribe candidates -Dahod, Chhota Udaipur, Bardoli, and Valsad.The other 20 constituencies are: Banaskantha, Patan, Mahesana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar,Ahmedabad East, Surendranagar, Rajkot,Porbandar, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Anand, Kheda, Panchmahal, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Navsari.
In Lok Sabha election 2024,voting percentage in Gujarat was 60.13%, while in 2019, the final polling percentage for the saffron in the western state was 62.2%. The other two main parties from the state are the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The key candidates from the state are - Home Minister Amit Shah from Gandhinagar, Mansukh Mandaviya from Porbandar, and Hasmukh Patel from Ahmedabad East. Despite the BJP's formidable presence, opposition parties, including the Indian National Congress (INC), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and other regional entities, aimed to reclaim their political foothold in the state. The INC, in particular, remained resilient in its pursuit of electoral relevance, buoyed by the spirit of democratic resurgence despite setbacks in the 2019 and 2014 elections.
