On the first day of Navratri, the first form of Goddess Durga, Shailputri, is worshipped.
As the daughter of the King of Mountains, Himalaya, she is known as Shailputri.
She is considered the reincarnation of Goddess Sati, who had sacrificed her life in the Yajna of Daksha Prajapati.
Maa Shailputri rides on Nandi the bull, holding a Trident in her right hand and a Lotus in her left hand.
She is regarded as the presiding deity of the entire Himalayan region.
