Farmers gather at Shambu border to begin protest march to Delhi

The Haryana government on Friday suspended mobile internet and bulk SMS service in 11 villages of Ambala district till December 9.The suspension was made over apprehensions of "tension, annoyance, agitation and disturbance of public peace" as a group of farmers prepares to march to Delhi with a demand for the minimum support price.The ban was enforced in Dangdehri, Lohgarh, Manakpur, Dadiyana, Bari Ghel, Lhars, Kalu Majra, Devi Nagar, Saddopur, Sultanpur, and Kakru villages of Ambala at Friday noon. According to Haryana Minister Anil Vij says, " Have they taken the permission? How can they be allowed to go (to Delhi) without permission? If they get permission, they will be allowed."

Meanwhile, a large contingent of farmers have gathered at the Shambhu border from where they have proposed to march towards Delhi later on on Friday. At the Shambhu border, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said that there would be a group of 100 farmers who would be marching towards Delhi peacefully and have no intention of breaking the barricades present.

The protest, led by the Bhartiya Kisan Parishad (BKP) in collaboration with other farmer organisations, seeks compensation and benefits linked to agricultural reforms,including a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP).
