TN govt withdraws cases against farmers, teachers from DMK era

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has said that all the cases filed during various protests by farmers and teachers from 2021 to 2026 will be withdrawn. In a suo moto statement in the Assembly today, the Chief Minister said that the protests were to express their appeal to the then Government in a democratic, peaceful manner and said that his Government would withdraw all the cases filed against the protestors. All the parties welcomed the move of the Government. Opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin said that cases were filed to maintain law and order and expressed that there was no need to mention that it was the previous Government in a suo moto statement.
Vijay also said that a digital driving licence and a digital registration certificate with a chip will be introduced in the State from the 15th of this month. in his statement, Vijay said that a QR Code can be used anywhere for registration and licensing by paying Rs. 250/-. The Chief Minister said that a driving licence would be given on the same day when the driving test is conducted. He said that this would increase transparency in Governance and reduce the waiting period. Earlier, registration took one week to one month.
Further, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister announced Rs. 4800 Crore worth drinking water schemes.The Chief Minister said that the Government will establish a 400 MLD desalination plant at Minjur near Chennai to meet the requirements of North Chennai.
He also said that a Rs.500 Crore scheme will also be implemented in Avadi Municipal Corporation to provide drinking water supply to all the households 24×7. The Government has also allocated Rs. 100 Crore to improve drinking water facilities in Madurai and Cuddalore municipal corporations, nine municipalities and 20 town panchayats. It has also been decided to renovate all the combined drinking water schemes. To facilitate the scheme, Rs. 300 Crore has been earmarked in the first phase. A Rs. 410 Crore project will also be implemented to enhance the capacity of the Chennai – Kilpauk drinking water supply Plant.
