Ensure free movement in Manipur from March 8, says Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday directed that free movement to be ensured for people on all roads in Manipur from March 8, 2025. He also instructed authorities to take strict action against anyone attempting to obstruct movement on the roads. The meeting, held in Delhi, focused on restoring normalcy in the northeastern state, which has been grappling with ethnic violence since May 2023. This was the first such review meeting held since the imposition of President's Rule in the state. Manipur has witnessed widespread violence for nearly two years, with over 200 people killed in clashes.
"To make Manipur drug-free, the entire network involved in drug trade should be dismantled," a statement from the Home ministry read. Shah also directed that the fencing work on both sides of the designated entry points along Manipur's international border should be completed at the earliest. The Home Minister said, the Modi government remains fully committed to restoring lasting peace in Manipur and is providing all necessary assistance in this regard.
The meeting was attended by the Governor of Manipur Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Union Home Secretary, Director, Intelligence Bureau, Deputy Chief of Army Staff, Army Commander of the Eastern Command, Directors General of Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Assam Rifles, Security Advisor, Manipur and senior officers of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Army and Manipur administration.
