Punjab LoP Bajwa booked over'50 bombs'remark

Hours after being quizzed over his "50 bombs have reached Punjab" claim, police on Sunday booked Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the state assembly Partap Singh Bajwa on charges of giving misleading information that endangers country's sovereignty and unity. The case was registered against Bajwa at Cyber Crime police station in Mohali under sections 197(1)(d) (false and misleading information that endangers country's sovereignty and unity) and 353(2) (false statements intend to create enmity and hatred or ill will) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, sources said.Earlier in the day, a two-member team of Punjab Police reached the residence of Bajwa and questioned him over his claims even as Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann asked the Congress leader to reveal the source of his information, questioning if he "had direct links with Pakistan". He had "age-old family ties with operatives in Pakistan" as intelligence agencies had no inputs regarding them, Mann said. “Bajwa will have to clearly tell from where he got this information, what his sources are who are giving him such information directly. If this is not the case, then he is spreading terror and action will be taken against him. If his aim is to spread terror, then the Congress should expel him because he is working against the country and standing with anti-national forces,” Mann added.
Nearly all leaders of Punjab Congress rallied behind Bajwa, saying that what he said was already there in public domain.In a joint written statement, they asked the AAP government not to divert the attention of people. The statement read: "What Bajwa had revealed was already in the public domain and was already being reported by various newspapers for so many days."
