Amit Shah chairs 72nd plenary session of N E Council in Tripura

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought north east to the focal point. Addressing the 72nd plenary of North Eastern Council in Agartala, he said that last 10 years has been very important for north east. He said, the Union Government is inspiring investors to make investments in north east. Shah said, earlier only lip service was made on north east; but Prime Minister Modi made sincere efforts to give importance to the development of the region. He said the establishment of peace is the most important thing that has happened in the region. The Union Home Minister underlined that it is the objective of PM Modi and BJP led government  to bring north east at par with rest of the country. Shah urged the Chief Ministers of eight northeastern states to give more impetus to curbing the smuggling and other menaces of drugs in the region.He said that the accusations against the northeastern states about drugs-related activities should be removed.
The Home Minister also urged the Chief Ministers to give priority to the effective implementation of the three new criminal laws -- the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA)."A multi-dimensional approach involving the state polices, Army, Assam Rifles and other Central Armed Police Forces has been undertaken to maintain peace and to curb all unlawful activities in the northeastern region,” the Home Minister said. The long pending inter-state border disputes in the northeastern states are being resolved amicably, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya Scindia credited the drastic drop in extremism and violence in the north east region to the stupendous role played by Home Minister Amit Shah in ushering peace and tranquility. He noted that there has been 71 per cent drop in extremist activities and 60 per cent drop to the loss of human life in the region.
Chief Ministers of northeastern states Himanta Biswa Sarma (Assam), Pema Khandu (Arunachal Pradesh), N. Biren Singh (Manipur), Lalduhoma (Mizoram), Neiphiu Rio (Nagaland), Prem Singh Tamang (Sikkim), and Manik Saha (Tripura) and Governors of these states were present in the NEC meeting.The meeting witnessed the presence of Governors and Chief Ministers from all North Eastern states, along with 53 senior officials.The North Eastern Council, established in 1971, plays a pivotal role in promoting economic and social development across the region. This year's plenary aims to further solidify its commitment to transforming the North East into a hub of growth and opportunity.

Later, addressing a Bankers' Conclave, Amit Shah said the banks should try to devise proper policies so that the Northeast's potentials could be explored properly. "You have to frame separate guidelines, separate parameters for the Northeast. Don't consider the Northeast as business opportunity. Development of the Northeast is a national responsibility," he said.
