Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday asked the Bharatiya Janata Party to relieve him from the post of Maharashtra Deputy chief minister and took responsibility for NDA’s poor performance in the state.Addressing a media briefing, Fadnavis said, "I take responsibility for such results in Maharashtra. I was leading the party. I am requesting the BJP high command to relieve me from the responsibility of the government so that I can work hard for the party in the upcoming elections."

Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde says, " The majority we need, that is completed. NDA govt will be formed under the leadership of PM Modi...I am here to support and greet him. Those people who don't have the majority, are talking about forming govt, this is just a dream...INDI alliance's only goal was to defeat PM Modi...people stopped them"

Currently, Maharashtra is ruled by a Shiv Sena-BJP alliance. The political situation in the western state started to shake up when Chief Minister Eknath Shinde left the Balasaheb Thackeray-founded party to join hands with the BJP.Maharashtra’s Lok Sabha election results came as a surprise to many as the National Democratic Alliance led by the BJP came way behind the I.N.D.I.A bloc in terms of the number of seats they won.NDA won 17 out of 48 seats while the INDI alliance, which includes NCP-SP and Shiv Sena-UBT, bagged 30 seats.
