The Maharashtra Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Tuesday approved several key decisions across health, transport, housing, and urban development sectors. In a major step for the healthcare sector, the government has decided to provide financial support from the State Health Guarantee Society’s reserve funds for nine critical diseases requiring treatments costing above five lakh rupees. The diseases include heart, lung, liver, and bone marrow transplants. Patients will now be eligible for financial support ranging from nine lakh 50 thousand to 22 lakh rupees depending on the procedure.
In the transport sector, the Cabinet cleared an additional allocation of over 491 crore rupees for converting the 116 Kilometre Nagpur-Nagbhid narrow-gauge railway line into broad gauge, aimed at improving connectivity in Vidarbha and adjoining regions. For urban infrastructure, Akola Municipal Corporation has been allotted land for a commercial complex, city bus stand, and vegetable market. Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation will receive land at Achole in Palghar district for setting up a multispecialty hospital.
The Cabinet also approved waiver of around nine crore rupees in stamp duty and registration charges for 884 houses under a cooperative housing project for women beedi workers in Solapur. To promote literature, land at concessional rates was allotted to the Nashik branch of the Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad, a century-old institution working for the promotion of Marathi language.
The Cabinet also approved a collective redevelopment project for over four thousand 973 housing units in Andheri’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Nagar with modern amenities, green building features, and township-style planning. The Cabinet also accepted the report of the high-level committee on the Ghatkopar illegal hoarding collapse incident of 2024 and directed concerned departments to implement the recommendations within one month.
