Worship of Maa Skandamata
The fifth day of Navratri is dedicated to the worship of Skandamata, the fifth form of Goddess Durga. She is the one who opens the gates of liberation, bestows supreme happiness, and fulfills all the wishes of her devotees.
Lord Skanda, also known as Kumar Kartikeya, became the commander of the gods in the great battle between the gods and demons. The Puranas describe him as Kumar and Shaktidhara, praising his glory. As the mother of Lord Skanda, this divine form of Goddess Durga is revered as Skandamata.
Form of the Goddess
Maa Skandamata has four arms.
In her right lower hand, she holds a lotus flower.
In her left upper hand, she is in the boon-giving posture (Varamudra).
In her left lower hand, she also holds a lotus flower.
Her complexion is completely pure and radiant white.
She is seated on a lotus, hence she is also called Padmasana Devi.
Her vehicle is a lion.
In her idol, child-form Lord Skanda is seated on her lap.
