The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested an absconding accused Amit Das in connection with murder of BJP worker Abhijit Sarkar. In May 2021, Abhijit, a 35-year-old BJP worker, was dragged out of his home in north Kolkata and murdered in broad daylight, allegedly by Trinamool Congress workers. The murder took place on a day of the high-stakes election in which the Trinamool retained power for a third term.
The CBI registered a case on August 25.2021 in Kolkata,related to post poll violence during State Assembly Elections in West Bengal in the year 2021. After completion of investigation, CBI filed charge sheet on September 30,2021 against 20 accused persons. Thereafter, CBI filed another Supplementary Charge sheet on June30,2025 against 18 more accused persons. After concerted efforts and on the basis of source information and technical inputs, accused Amit was arrested.
