Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday urged the opposition not to give a political colour to the government's bills for implementation of the women's reservation law and cautioned that they should be mindful that those who had opposed this in the past had suffered badly in elections. Allaying fears on delimitation, he assured that no injustice will be done to any state - from east to west and north to south. Intervening in the debate in Lok Sabha on the three bills moved to amend the women's quota law and set up a delimitation commission, Modi said if all sides support the bills, it will not go in favour of politics of any one side but would be in favour of the country. To those who smell politics in this, I would urge them to take a look at the results of their own past 30 years, he said.

The Prime Minister also took a swipe at Trinamool Congress' MP Kalyan Banerjee. requested Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla to allow Banerjee to speak since he is "not allowed to do so" in West Bengal. As Modi addressed the lower house, the TMC MP was heard raising his objection to the prime minister. In a clip from the address, which is now making rounds on social media, Birla is seen asking Banerjee to take his seat.

PM Modi also warned the opposition, stating that if anyone were to object to this reservation, they will “not be forgiven by the women of India.” Modi emphasised that fifty per cent of the country’s population should be made a part of the decision-making process. He said, Nari Shakti is playing an instrumental role in the development of the country, and giving them due representation in the policy-making is the need of the hour.
