Emphasising the critical role of women in shaping a robust democratic framework, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that greater participation of women in legislative bodies is essential for building an inclusive and progressive India.He was addressing a Women Youth Parliament organised by Mera Yuva Bharat under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports at Shri Ram College of Commerce. The event, themed “Nari Shakti: Viksit Bharat ki Awaaz – Strengthening Inclusive Democracy,” brought together young women to actively engage in democratic discourse and policymaking processes.
Mandaviya highlighted that inclusive governance creates pathways for women to assume leadership roles, strengthening democratic institutions and contributing significantly to national development. Referring to the upcoming special session on the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam scheduled from April 16 to 18, he described the legislation as a transformative step toward ensuring enhanced representation of women in Parliament and state legislatures.
Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta underlined that women are central to nation-building, noting that their active participation in politics leads to more inclusive and effective policymaking. He stressed the importance of increasing women’s presence in key decision-making roles.The programme witnessed participation from over 500 women, including 37 young delegates from Delhi and Uttarakhand who took part in a mock youth parliament, representing various ministries. Participants shared perspectives on the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, underscoring the need for stronger representation and gender-inclusive governance.
The initiative focused on enhancing leadership capabilities, civic awareness, and confidence among young women, reinforcing their role in the democratic process.Among those present were senior officials including Nitesh Kumar Mishra, Additional Secretary in the ministry, along with Priyanka Shukla and Simrit Kaur, Principal of Shri Ram College of Commerce, highlighting institutional support for empowering women in governance and public life.
