On Monday, a committee set up by the NHRC decided that it will interact with stakeholders over alleged human rights violations during post-poll violence in West Bengal also on Tuesday, making it a three-day affair, as a large number of people have turned up to register their case, an official said. The committee was set up by the chairperson of the NHRC on a direction by the Calcutta High Court to look into allegations of human rights violations during post-poll violence in the state.
Meanwhile, reacting to the incident, TMC MLA Madan Mitra said, "No one with 'national' on its name can be attacked. Why will public attack the (NHRC) team? People of West Bengal have already hit Amit Shah and Narendra Modi by giving TMC 200 plus seats in the assembly election."
BJP blamed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC) government for the attack on the NHRC team. Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari said, "It is shameful and shows what is taking place within Bengal. The NHRC did not come with directions from Centre but from HC."
