Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore's vision is the essence of Atmanirbhar Bharat, which is the path of India's welfare for world welfare.Addressing the centenary celebrations of the Vishwa-Bharati University in Shantiniketan through video conferencing on Thursday, Prime Minister Modi said Gurudev wanted that the world should benefit from what is best in India and it should also learn from what is good in the world.The Prime Minister is the Chancellor of the University. He said, India is spreading message emanating from Vishwa-Bharati to the whole world.The Prime Minister said, Vishwa Bharati showed us, how to live and learn with nature. He said India is the only major country which is moving in right direction to achieve environmental targets set under the Paris Agreement. Remembering the heritage of Bhakti movement in Bengal, Modi said, with bhakti and freedom movement, Gurudev Tagore's Viswa Bharati added new energy in knowledge movement of India.PM Modi also mentioned several Bengali freedom fighters' supreme sacrifice. He said, Gurudev saw Viswa Bharati as a place of learning and wanted to connect knowledge with living.
-The Ministry of External Affairs has said that India and China have agreed to hold the 9th round of Senior Commander meeting very soon for the early and complete disengagement of troops along the LAC. The Ministry said, the meeting will be held in accordance with the bilateral agreements and protocols between the two countries.Briefing media in New Delhi o Thursday, Ministry of External Affairs’ spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said, India and China continue to maintain communication channels through diplomatic and military channels. He added that discussions have helped both sides to enhance understanding of each other's position and a meeting of Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination, WMCC on India-China border affairs took place on 18th of December in this month.
-Road Transport & Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced that FASTag is being made mandatory for all vehicles in the country from new year. Addressing a virtual function Gadkari said, FASTag will be enforced from 1st of January, 2021. Enumerating its benefits, he said, it is useful for the commuters as they will not need to stop at toll plazas for cash payments. It will also save time and fuel.Four banks together issued nearly a lakh FASTags, launched in 2016. Over 34 lakh FASTags were issued in 2018. The Ministry had issued a notification last month making FASTag mandatory by 1st of January 2021 in old vehicles also sold before 1st December, 2017.The Ministry said, the steps for ensuring the availability of FASTag at multiple channels are being made through physical locations and also through online mechanism so that the citizens are able to have them affixed at their vehicles within the next two months at their convenience.
-Enforcement Directorate, ED has provisionally attached Fixed Deposits along with seized cash recovered from the bank lockers totalling to one crore 85 lakh in Kerala Gold Smuggling Case. Amongst the attached assets, Rs one crore belong to former Principal Secretary to Chief Minister of Kerala M. Sivasankar. The ED has initiated investigation under Prevention of Money Laundering Act on the basis of National Investigation Agency, NIA's FIR in Kochi against Sarith P S, Swapna Prabha Suresh, Faisal Fareed and Sandeep Nair under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. During the course of investigation, it was revealed that the accused persons were indulged in illegal smuggling of gold to India and huge amounts of proceeds of crime were generated.
-Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced the construction of a new world class hockey stadium in Rourkela. The proposed stadium, being built as the largest one in the country, will host the Men's World Cup Hockey World Cup in 2023 with a seating capacity of 20,000 spectators. The district of Sundargarh of which the city of Rourkela is a part, is a powerhouse of hockey talent that includes national team captains like Dilip Tirkey and Sunita Lakra.
