The final electoral rolls of Uttar Pradesh will now be published on April 10 instead of March 6, the Election Commission has said. In a letter to the state chief electoral officer on Thursday, the poll panel said it has considered his request made on February 2 "and also upon consideration of other relevant factors", it has decided to revise the schedule of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Uttar Pradesh, Navdeep Rinwa, said the SIR process began on October 27, while door-to-door verification started on November 4. The draft electoral roll was published on January 6, and the final voter list will now be released on April 10.Rinwa said political parties had demanded an extension during a meeting held on January 27, following which the claims and objections period was extended by one month. Applications for inclusion, correction or deletion of names can be submitted till March 6. The CEO said that 2.37 crore notices have been issued so far, of which 86.27 lakh have been served to voters. Hearings have been completed for 30.30 lakh voters, accounting for 9.2 per cent of the total.
Rinwa clarified that Form 7 is used for the deletion of names from the electoral roll and can be filled out only by a registered voter. The applicant must provide complete details along with valid reasons for deletion. Multiple Form 7 submissions will not be accepted together, and a maximum of 10 Form 7 applications can be submitted in a single day. EC had announced the SIR of electoral rolls in nine states, including UP, and three Union Territories in October last year. The electoral rolls of the other states and UTs are scheduled to be published on February 14.
