In Karnataka, two BJP MLA's S T Somasekar of Yeshwantpura and Shivaram Hebbar of Yellapura has been expelled from the party for 6 years for anti party activities. They were identified with Congress Party for many years now. Both have distanced from BJP activities for a long time. Already another stalwart of BJP Basanagowda PATIL Yatnal was expelled recently for his outspoken criticism of BY Vijayendra, state BJP president, who announced the decision on Tuesday, saying it was made by the party high command after extensive discussions.
A letter issued by Om Pathak, member-secretary of the BJP's central disciplinary committee, informed Hebbar that the committee had considered his response to a show-cause notice dated March 25."The committee also took a serious note of your repeated violations of the party discipline. It has accordingly been decided to expel you for six years with immediate effect from the primary membership of the party. You stand removed from any party position that you hold as of now," the letter read.

Sources say that past activities of Somashekar and Hebbar may have contributed to their expulsion. During the Rajya Sabha elections in 2024, Somashekar cross-voted, while Hebbar abstained from voting. Somashekar later told the media he had “voted for those who helped build schools and carried out development work in my constituency". Somashekar also reportedly praised Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, calling him his “godfather in politics” in a separate incident. Both leaders, originally with the Congress party, switched to the BJP in 2019 and later held ministerial roles.
