More than 50 students were hospitalised after reportedly falling ill with severe abdominal pain following dinner at a government hostel in Karnataka's Kalaburagi district, according to agency reports.The incident occurred at the Murarji Desai Hostel in Dandoti village on Thursday night, after which the students complained of stomach pain and discomfort. They were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.As per officials, 31 students were admitted to Chittapur Hospital, 10 to Gundgurti Hospital, five to Malkhed Hospital and one to Dandoti Hospital. The remaining students were also provided medical attention.

Following the incident, Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ikramulla Shariff and District Health Officer (DHO) Sharanbasappa paid an emergency visit to the Chittapur Hospital. The officials assessed the clinical status of the admitted students, interacted with the treating physicians, and directed hospital administrations to ensure that top-tier healthcare and resources are provided for a swift recovery. Health officials said the students are under medical observation and their condition is being closely monitored. An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the exact cause of the suspected food poisoning.Authorities are also examining the food served at the hostel and have assured that appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
