Thakrey meets PM, Maratha quota, cyclone relief on agenda

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday in New Delhi and raised the subject of Maratha quota, struck down by the Supreme Court recently. Last month Thackeray wrote to the Prime Minister and requested him to take steps to declare the Maratha community in the state as a  Socially and Educationally Backward caste so they could claim reservation in education (12 per cent) and jobs (13 per cent). Thackeray was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Ashok Chavan and Milind Narvekar amongst others.

The delegation led by Maharashtra Chief Minister discussed a host of issues with the Prime Minister which included Maratha and OBC reservation in the state, land acquisition for Metro Car shed at Kanjurmarg, GST compensation to Maharashtra, issues related to crop insurance and bulk drug park. Uddhav Thackeray also requested the Prime Minister to revise the NDRF norms for the compensation to the people affected by natural disasters. The Chief Minister expressed satisfaction about this meeting. On his separate meeting with the PM, Mr Thackeray remarked: "We may not be politically together but that doesn't mean our relationship has broken. I didn't go to meet a Nawaz Sharif. So if I meet him (PM) separately in person, there is nothing wrong with it."
