The Delhi Police have arrested three suspected ISIS terrorists, one of them on the most wanted list of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).The three have been identified as Shahnawaz, Mohammed Rizwan and Mohammed Arshad Warsi.Shahnawaz alias Shafi Uzzama was arrested by the special cell of Delhi Police from a hideout in Delhi.An engineer by profession, Shahnawaz was wanted in the ISIS Pune module case. According to sources, Shahnawaz is originally from Delhi but had moved to Pune. In July, during a raid in Pune, two of his associates were arrested. Shahnawaz managed to flee and returned to Delhi. He had been living in a hideout since.V said he was arrested on Monday morning.
"A mining engineer by profession, Shahnawaz, was arrested from an area in southeast Delhi," Delhi Police said while addressing a press conference. Meanwhile, Rizwan Ashraf was arrested in Lucknow and Arshad in Muradabad."Special Cell for a long time has been keeping an eye on the Indian Mujahideen and IS kingpin. A lot of such modules have been busted," Special Commissioner of Police Delhi, HGS Dhaliwal said.All the accused were presented before a special court and have been sent to police custody for seven days. "When their hideouts were raided, different equipment to make explosives were recovered. Pistols, cartridges and various literature to make bombs were also recovered," Dhaliwal said.
Shahnavaz, who hails from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, is a mining engineer.Rizwan Ashraf has completed a B-Tech degree from Aligarh University and is pursuing a course at Jamia Millia Islamia.Arshad is a religious scholar and hails from Azamgarh.According to police, the accused were planning to target VVIPs. All three suspected terrorists have completed their studies and were allegedly planning to carry out bomb blasts in different parts of the country.Earlier this month, the NIA had announced a cash reward of ₹ 3 lakh each for information about Shahnawaz and three other terror suspects -- Rizwan Abdul Haji Ali, Abdulla Faiyaz Shaikh alias Diaperwala and Talha Liyakat Khan.
