Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, an IPS officer and the chief of Central Industrial Security Forces, has been appointed as the chief of the Central Bureau of Investigation for a two-year period.The government notification was issued on Tuesday evening after a highpower committee meetings between Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Justice of India and opposition leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. Jaiswal is a 1985-batch IPS officer of the Maharashtra cadre. He was the senior most officer among the three short-listed for the post of CBI Director.
He held the top post in the Mumbai police and subsequently was the police chief of Maharashtra before being called for central deputation earlier this year. He has not served in the CBI, though he had been part of the Intelligence Bureau and the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). "The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has, based on the panel recommended by the Committee, approved the appointment of Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, IPS (MH: 1985) as Director, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a period of two years from the date of assumption of charge of the office or until further orders whichever is earlier," read the DoPT order.
