Networking and relationships are very important in the entertainment industry: Sumbul Touqeer

Sumbul Touqeer, who is seen in Kavya - Ek Jazbaa, Ek Junoon, feels it’s important to be social in the entertainment industry as it helps build new connections and contacts. And she believes it is equally important to acknowledge these connections. She said, “Networking and relationships are very important in the entertainment industry. They lead to new opportunities and learning. I build my connections when I attend events, keeping genuine relationships with colleagues and supporting their projects. I feel it's not just about making contacts but also about acknowledging relationships.”
As an actor, she said that learning never stops and is crucial to her career. She said, “I make it a priority by learning from every experience and seeking mentorships to improve my skills. Currently, I'm focusing on enhancing my improvisation abilities and understanding character psychology better.” “These skills help me perform better and stay flexible for different roles and challenges in the industry,” she added.
Sumbul also stressed that being adaptable is essential in the entertainment industry, as things change quickly here. She said, “I want to stay open to new ideas, constantly improve my skills, and take on different roles and challenges. I know that setbacks are part of the journey, but I see them as chances to learn and grow. I feel that by staying strong and keeping my goals and beliefs in mind, I can bounce back stronger.”
The entertainment industry is very competitive, and Sumbul agrees with that. She added, “Staying relevant can be tough. So I focus on the quality of my work rather than the pressure to always be in the spotlight.” She further said, “I want to build a lasting career for myself by doing good work and taking on meaningful projects.and at the end, I feel it's all about being real, staying ambitious, and letting my work talk.”
Being a public figure brings a lot of responsibility and scrutiny, and Sumbul feels it’s part of the job. She said, “I always handle this by staying true to my values, focusing on my work, and maintaining a positive relationship with my audience.” “I take my responsibilities seriously and try to be a positive influence both on and off-screen. I feel it's all about using the platform responsibly and understanding that sabko apne opinions rakhne ka haq hai, and it's up to you how you take it. Keep it or let it go,” she ended.

Parents, a word that’s home: Hansa Singh

Actress, tarot card reader, healer, and occultist Hansa Singh, who has been part of projects like Human, Criminal Justice 3, and the film Goodbye, says she misses being with her parents as they live in Delhi. Speaking on the occasion of National Parents Day, which is observed on July 28, she said, "Parents have a word that’s home. And I miss being home as I stay away from them since my work is in the maximum city and they stay in Delhi.“
“For me, it’s not about space but about meeting them as often as I want. Sometimes it gets difficult. Privacy all depends on the heart of the house and its ever-evolving dynamics. But I guess including parents needs privacy and space, which more holistically we can say'me time’,” she added. She stressed that communication is the key to any relationship. She believes that just saying I love you is not enough until your actions speak louder than words. She added, “There is a quintessential family group on WhatsApp. Well, today’s generation, in a generic way, may look in need of a base as they are into a plethora of different activities. So home is Khana Aur Sona. And it takes two to tango. How and what has been inculcated in the kids?”
Hansa believes that when parents try to become friends, it is the best way to bring up kids. “After a certain age, say once teens start slowly, the parenting should change too. Firm yet friendly. First, have confidence in your child. Listen to and understand your child. As a mother, no one knows the child better. Never look at your child through a colored lens. A child has nowhere to go, only home. Don’t close that door,” she said.
What advice do you have for the younger generations? “Today’s generation is AI-generated. For them, everything is in nanoseconds. They are more glued to the screen than the open-air charisma of life. They need to understand how to balance both worlds. The parents are working parents who leave kids to Nanny’s and guilt with gifts. It’s a sorry state of affairs in the times we live in, maybe with a few examples of rarity,” Hansa ended.

We should make a point of reaching out to them, Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi on National Parents Day

leaving their parents behind, but he stressed that they should not be forgotten as their blessing is very important. Speaking on the occasion of National Parents Day, which is observed on July 28, he said, “We are seeing nuclear families, at least in major metros. We kind of adapt to western culture, thinking that we need to be more free. But I believe that the blessing of parents is very important.”
“If you can manage to stay with your parents, it is only going to help you, because I believe I see God and my parents, and I believe their blessings are always very important. They are the people who will probably guide you and be with you through all your troubles. On National Parents Day, we remember them, but we should always remember them and make a point of reaching out to them, irrespective of our busy schedule,” he added. He stressed that parents look forward to hearing from their children, and if they are staying with them, they are definitely the lucky ones. He also pointed out that speaking to parents, even if they are far away, has become so easy.
“You can do a video call so that, you know, we all just want to see our children once a day, and that makes us happy. I ensure that I call my daughters, do a facetime call with them, and once I see them and speak to them, most of the time, it takes less than a minute, and that makes me happy,” he said. Chef Harpal also feels it's important that children look at their parents enjoying their lives and ensure that they are adapting to new technology. “They believe that now their life is almost over, so why learn new things? So it is the children's job to ensure that they are technologically updated. And you help them achieve that. Sitting with them and watching a movie together makes everybody feel happy, especially the parents,” he said.
He also shared that parents can have a friendly approach to children, but they should always be parents. “Because you are a parent, you are a mother, and you are a father to your child. So you need to be like that. I mean, you can behave like a friend by reaching out closely to them and probably communicating with them the way they feel comfortable. But at the same time, you should not forget the ethics, values, and the way they speak to you because it's very important,” he said. “Whenever he or she meets any elderly person, parents, or friends, her behavior and approach towards them will be the way they have behaved with their own mother and father, so for the parents, it's important that the culture, ethics, and communication be taught in a way that is carried forward in the best possible manner,” he added.
He believes that because of the competition and peer pressure that children go through, parents try to become friends. “I believe that you should remain a parent with a friendly approach to them so that communication is not distorted and they speak out all their problems so that back-and-forth communication can help the child grow better and better,” he said.
Talking about his relationship with his parents, he said, “With my mother, we could share everything, but with my father, it was always a little stricter. My father would be in one room, and I would be in the other room. If he comes to my room, I will step out of it. I would say that although my father still remains the pillar of strength in my life, he communicates very little with me. But those words used to be very strong, and he would always probably be a mentor and guide to me with very few words spoken,” he said.
What advice do you have for the current younger generation? “The youngsters should not forget that a parent is always a parent, and he or she would get the first and only support, mostly in life, from their parents. They feel your pain; they feel the way you are crafting. They are the people who will be your guide and mentor all throughout your life. So I believe, do not let the outside world forget the ethics and culture that we have in our country,” he ended.
